Calvin Ridley is back. [The fifth-year wide receiver, whose season was cut short by a gambling suspension, was one of the NFL's rising stars. After more than a season away from playing due to a ban and injury, he returned to the Jacksonville Jaguars as a 28-year-old veteran. And he reclaimed his suspended spot.
Ridley was Trevor Lawrence's favorite target early and often on Sunday, tallying four catches for 41 yards in the first quarter against the Indianapolis Colts; his fourth catch was Jacksonville's first touchdown of the season.
With the game at a scoreless draw late in the first quarter, the Jaguars faced 3rd and 8 at the Colts' 10-yard line. Lawrence took a shotgun snap and could not find an open receiver to get past his first progression. He scrambled and rolled out to his left from the Colts pass rush and found Ridley standing alone on the back baseline in the end zone. He fired a strike from the 20-yard line that was Ridley's first touchdown with his new team.
The Jaguars, who finished the day with eight catches for 101 yards and a touchdown as he was the clear No. 1 receiver in Jacksonville,went 31-21in the win. Lawrence totaled 241 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while Zay Jones was Jacksonville's second leading receiver with five catches and 55 yards.
